AMBASSADOR SOROOSH SPOKE IN THE OPENING SESSION OF A HYBRID EVENT "GLOBAL ALLIANCE IN SUPPORT OF AFGHANISTAN WOMEN"

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke today in the opening session of a hybrid event “Global Alliance in Support of Afghanistan women” which was organized by the Women & Children Research and Advocacy Network (WCRAN) in Mississauga, Canada.

Ambassador Soroosh thanked WCRAN for developing the roadmap and presenting an important set of policy options and recommendations in support of Afghan women and girls.

Ambassador Soroosh highlighted, among other priorities, the importance of 1) forming an effective global alliance under a proactive and unified approach in support of women and girls, 2) recognizing the situation in Afghanistan as gender apartheid, 3) greater resettlement support particularly for Afghan women’s rights defenders, 4) greater support for sustaining the work of women’s rights activists and women-led initiatives both inside and outside of Afghanistan, and 5) the need to enhance the scale and efficiency of humanitarian assistance.

Ambassador Soroosh thanked Canada other international partners for continued humanitarian and resettlement support and for keeping the situation of women and girls high on their agenda. He also expressed his gratefulness to the Afghan diaspora community and friends of Afghanistan around the world for their sustained commitment and engagement in support of Afghan women and girls.
