Ambassador Soroosh Speaks at Virtual Event on “Trade and Transit Facilitation in the Time of COVID-19 Pandemic”

Ottawa- June 23, 2020 Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke at a virtual event on “Trade and Transit Facilitation in the Time of COVID-19 Pandemic” which was hosted by the Greater Central Asia Initiative – UBC SPPGA. Ambassador Soroosh spoke about Afghanistan’s centrality as a regional transit and trade hub and its implications for integration between Central Asia and South Asia. He also spoke about the trade and transit related needs and challenges in the time of pandemic; the ongoing joint efforts by Afghanistan and regional partners to ensure smooth movement of medical and food supplies; short-term and long-term priorities in the context of both hard and soft infrastructure as well as the role that regional cooperation platforms and international partners such as Canada can play in this context. Other speakers included Mr. Ajay Bisaria, High Commissioner of India to Canada and Mr. David Hartman, Director General of South Asia Bureau, Global Affairs Canada who shared their perspectives and country measures under the topic. The event was moderated by Mr. Zahir Faqiri, Lead, Greater Central Asia Initiative. Mr. Azim Wardak, Economic Counselor of the Embassy also attended the event.
