AMBASSADOR SOROOSH PARTICIPATED VIRTUALLY AS A SPEAKER IN A SEMINAR ON THE "ROLE OF MEDIA IN PREVENTING FURTHER ISOLATION OF AFGHANISTAN”

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated virtually as a speaker in a seminar on the “ Role of Media in Preventing Further Isolation of Afghanistan” organized by the Fahim Dashty Foundation in Toronto, Canada.
Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the increasing restrictions on Afghan media under the Taliban and stated that: “Once a vibrant and flourishing sector under the Republic exemplified by the presence of over 500 media outlets in the country, the media sector today suffers tremendously under the Taliban’s repressive polices and practices.”
He further spoke about the role of Afghan media and journalists in highlighting the growing humanitarian needs, exposing human rights violations and voicing the aspirations of the people.
Ambassador Soroosh stressed the importance of greater support for media outlets in Afghanistan, the diaspora-led media outlets as well as the newcomer journalists within the Afghan diaspora community.
He also expressed his gratefulness to Canada for the previous support to many important areas including democratic process and media sector in Afghanistan as well as for the ongoing humanitarian, resettlement and advocacy efforts in support of the people of Afghanistan.
