AMBASSADOR SOROOSH PARTICIPATED AND SPOKE AT A PARLIAMENTARY EVENT ON GENDER APARTHEID IN AFGHANISTAN

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated and spoke at a parliamentary event on gender apartheid in Afghanistan which was co-hosted by Canada’s Feminist Forum for Afghanistan, Women’s Regional Network and a distinguished group of MPs and Senators in Ottawa.

Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the current multifaceted crisis in Afghanistan and the fact that women continue to suffer the brunt of this tragic situation in the country.

Ambassador Soroosh thanked all the co-organizers and participants for being a strong and consistent voice for Afghan women and girls. He further expressed his gratitude to all distinguished friends of Afghanistan in the House and Senate for keeping the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan high on the agenda.

Ambassador Soroosh stated that codifying gender apartheid will create the required legal framework and will help a stronger response to women’s rights violations in Afghanistan.

He also expressed his gratefulness to the Government of Canada for the previous and ongoing support to the people of Afghanistan including through humanitarian, resettlement and advocacy efforts.
