Ambassador Hassan Soroosh had a phone conversation with the Honorable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development of Canada.
Ambassador Soroosh briefed Minister Monsef about a number of important processes and areas including COVID-19 response efforts, Afghan peace process, and the ongoing efforts towards self-reliance in the country with a focus on the priorities, ongoing efforts and major achievements made over the past few years in two areas of women’s empowerment and rural development in Afghanistan.
The two sides discussed the impact of COVID-19 on women, vulnerable families and persons with disabilities as well as the prospects for peace and women’s participation in the peace process. They also discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and long-term partnership between the two countries.
Ambassador Soroosh conveyed the people and government of Afghanistan’s appreciation for Canada’s unwavering commitment and continued support to peace and development in Afghanistan.
Mr. Sayed Mujtaba Ahmadi, Deputy Chief of Mission; Mr. Azim Wardak, Economic Counselor; Ms. Shabana Kargar, Head of the Social and Cultural Affairs Section of the Embassy as well as staff from the Minister’s Office also joined this conversation.
