AFGHANISTAN CULTURAL FESTIVAL TITLED “A PROMENADE IN THE MEADOWS”
On Sunday, July 17, 2022, the Afghanistan Cultural Festival titled “ A Promenade in the Meadows” was organized by the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CWWA) with the attendance of many from the Afghan community and friends of Afghanistan in Canada.
Ambassador Hassan Soroosh; Hon. Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament; Councillor Theresa Kavanagh from the City Council; Ms. Chandra Pasma, Member of Provincial Parliament; Ms. Jennifer Simpson and Ms. Najia Haneefi, Co-chairs of the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan)-Ottawa Chapter were among the speakers who talked about different aspects of partnership between the people of Afghanistan and Canada and stressed the importance of sustained support to vulnerable Afghans particularly women and girls.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratefulness to Canada for the previous assistance provided and sacrifices made in support of the people of Afghanistan and the shared values as well as for the ongoing humanitarian aid, resettlement support and advocacy efforts for Afghan women and girls.
Ambassador Soroosh also thanked the Afghan community and friends of Afghanistan from civil society and humanitarian sector including CWWA for their tireless efforts and continued support to the resettlement efforts including through their many voluntary activities in support of post-arrival priorities.
Ambassador Soroosh stated that “as experience shows, no system can survive without respecting and embracing the will of the people especially in a country as diverse as Afghanistan”…” the courageous women and girls, civil society activists and human rights defenders in Afghanistan continue to struggle for their rights and they deserve our collective support and in this context, Canada’s sustained support remains crucial in ensuring an inclusive future for all Afghans based on human rights, justice and pluralism.”
Ambassador Soroosh also thanked the distinguished artists and cultural activists for their performance during the cultural festival and for raising the voice of vulnerable Afghans.
