On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science for 2021, we wish to recognize the outstanding achievements of women and girls across Afghanistan in the fight against COVID-19, including the Afghan Girls Robotic Team. In 2020, the team used old car parts to create low-cost respirators to help Covid-19 patients. In a time of great adversity, the girls' selfless efforts to provide crucial relief to Afghan citizens affected by the global pandemic are inspiring.

The contribution of exciting new ideas and accomplishments by Afghan women and girls plays a critical role towards innovating the field of science in Afghanistan. With support from international partners like Canada, the Government of Afghanistan continuously seeks to open up new opportunities for equal access and participation in the fields of science for Afghan women and girls.
